Flea Market was created as a community based website. The most important aspect of this website is the sharing of information between users. The key is self-promotion on the web and especially in social networking sites like this one is social engagement and interaction.
The key is to be social, not promotional. No one is interested in reading 1,000 repetitive boring posts made just to get a link in. It's double the search engine bots have anymore interest in them than real people. We offer a great solution.
You can participate as an expert on our site. This allows you to participate socially and as an interesting and informative member. You can be truly engaging and the self promotion follows along automatically and at no cost!
First, you create an Expert page. This bridges the gap between your social interaction and your marketing. It is important to keep this page socially interesting as you direct people to your business website. Everytime you make a post, note, upload a photo or otherwise participate on Flea Market it will be automatically linked to your expert page. Your posts will also be highlighted with the EXPERT logo so you stuff will really stand out.
Second you can add a free banner ad (225 x 188). The free banner ad is displayed across our entire site. It is a great way to promote your expert page. The more you participate in the Flea Market forum the more your banner ad will be displayed. In December, 2011 the total number of banner ad impressions displayed was 2,875. One half of these impressions are reserved to be prorated between the participants in our experts page free banner ad program.
These are the current guidelines:
- All banner ads are 225 x 188 pixels and no animations, blinking, etc of any kind are allowed. The ads must fit within the nature and topic of this site.
- All banner ads link to your expert site and can be uploaded once your site is approved.
- 50% of this site's 225 x 188 banner impressions will be shared among the site's participants.
- The banner impressions will be prorated by your participation in the forum. The more you participate the more your ad will be seen.
Get started now:
- Create your Expert page.
- Create one or more 225 x 188 pixel banner ads (you can do an A-B or A-B-C test to see what ads are most effective)
- Upload your graphic (on the same page where you edit your expert page)
By participating in the Flea Market forum you will earn points. The points will be used to prorate the ad impressions between the users. The more you post the more your ad will be displayed. Please note that points and ads are separate between the English and Spanish portions of the site. Here is a brief rundown of how points are calculated:
- A new post gets 3 points.
- A reply to a post gets 1 point.
- A link in a post or reply gets an additional point. Note: only the first time a link is used counts. The objective is that you post links that are interesting and relevant to a specific post, not generic "signature" type links.
- Adding a "note" gets 1/2 point.
- Tagging something gets 1/4 point.
- Participation over the most recent 8 weeks is used and points lose value each week.
- Participation by users without ads does not effect your prorate share.
- You must have participated at least once within the previous 7 days for your ad to show.
